FAQ’s
General App Usage
- What is the difference between the 'Cars' tab and the 'Friends' tab?
- The Cars tab is designed for tracking trip distances in a shared car, like one used among siblings or friends. Here, fuel costs from refueling the tank are shared based on the distance driven by each person using that car. The cost is calculated proportionally based on how much each driver contributed to the total distance since the last refuel.
- The Friends tab is for tracking and sharing costs of individual trips instead of entire tank refuels. Using fuel efficiency data and current fuel prices, Waggie estimates the cost of each trip, which is then immediately split among the selected passengers ("lifters").
- Note: If you click 'Start Driving' on the Cars tab, Waggie assumes you want to log distance only (for shared car refueling). It won't calculate trip cost. If you click 'Start Driving with Friends' on the Friends tab, Waggie will calculate and split the cost of that specific trip.
- How do I add new members to a group?
- Open the group, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select 'Add Members'. Enter the email addresses of the users you want to invite and select them from the list.
Fuel Cost & Trip Tracking
- How does Waggie calculate costs for shared cars (tank-based)?
- Example: You drove 100 km, User 1 drove 200 km, and User 2 drove 300 km. If the total fuel cost for the tank is €60, the total distance driven on that tank is 600 km:
• User 2 drove 50% of that distance → pays €30
• User 1 drove 33.3% → pays €20
• You drove 16.7% → pay €10
Costs are split proportionally based on each driver's share of the total distance.
- How does the Trip Cost Estimator work?
- Enter your fuel price (or let Waggie auto-fill based on your country and fuel type), and your car's fuel efficiency. Waggie calculates the fuel used by dividing the trip distance by your fuel efficiency (e.g., 12 km per liter). The consumed fuel volume is then multiplied by the fuel price to get your total trip cost.
Payments & Balances
- What does the balance mean?
- Your balance shows how much you owe or are owed from shared trips or tanks. Positive balances mean you're owed money; negative balances mean you need to pay.
- How do I settle balances?
- Tap 'Settle Balances' and the app will generate a summary of who owes whom. You can confirm or cancel this summary. Confirming will notify everyone in the group, and it remains open for review. You can either finalize it (resetting all balances to zero) or remove it if corrections are needed. (Note: Automated payments are not yet available, so you'll need to use external services like Tikkie, Venmo, or PayPal to actually transfer money.)
Troubleshooting
- Why is my trip cost different from the estimate?
- Variations in fuel prices or differences between assumed and actual fuel efficiency can cause slight discrepancies.
- My trip didn't save. What should I do?
- First, ensure you properly ended the trip. If the app freezes during upload due to poor internet, Waggie creates local backups of GPS-tracked trips. A simple app restart (with a stable internet connection) usually completes the upload. If the trip still doesn't appear, you may need to re-enter it manually.
